Meta is planning to populate its social media platforms, FB and Instagram, with a “creative new entertainment format.” That format in question is AI-generated bots, or “users.”

In a new interview with Financial Times, Connor Hayes, Meta’s VP for generative AI, says, “Unlike human creators, these AI personas don’t have lived experiences, emotions, or the same capacity for relatability.”

This latest move by Meta is the tech giant’s strategy plan to boost engagement across its 3 billion users. The company is already rolling out tools to help users create AI stickers on IG and Facebook, with plans to expand these offerings.

These AI characters would have profiles, bios, and the ability to generate content. But, still, being a part of the C2PA’s Steering Committee, the FB parent company will slap AI content with labels that it’s AI-generated and tighten its security belt to address potential risks.

Meta AI, Meta’s AI chatbot that rivals ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, is already launching everywhere worldwide on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Meta is also rumored of developing its own AI search engine to reduce its reliance on Bing and Google. This move comes as the company introduces new web crawling bots to gather info for AI training and improve product offerings.

There’s already an “anti-social” social media app called SocialAI where you’re the only human user. Instead, AI-generated bot accounts will interact endlessly with you in an extremely Twitter-like interface.

And if that’s not enough, platforms like Snapchat and TikTok have also launched generative AI tools to attract new users.
