Google has removed the Gemini 1.5 Flash and 1.5 Pro models from its Gemini app, following the stable launch of 2.0 Flash as Google promised.
The 1.5 models, which had been available since mid-2024, were replaced by the more advanced 2.0 Flash, now available to all users for everyday tasks, as 9to5Google spotted.
While 2.0 Flash offers faster performance across various tasks, the 2.0 Pro Experimental model is expected to handle complex tasks in the future, with improvements still being tested.
Gemini Advanced subscribers can also gain additional features like a larger context window for file uploads, and custom Gems.
Gemini Flash 2.0 quickly gained popularity, ranking in the top 4 on OpenRouter for its faster performance at lower cost. It outperforms competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which will soon be replaced by GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, despite some user feedback on request limits.
Recently, Google also expanded its Deep Research tool, which is now available on the Gemini mobile app for iOS and Android to give you AI-powered assistants for detailed reports.
The Gemini app has also introduced a new feature that allows users to recall past conversations, similar to ChatGPT’s Memory feature.
Available for Gemini Advanced subscribers via Google One AI Premium, this feature lets you continue conversations by referencing previous chats.
It is currently available in English on the web and mobile, with plans for expansion to other languages and Workspace Business and Enterprise customers. The feature works only with the Gemini 2.0 Flash model and excludes Gemini Live conversations.
