Google Maps lacks a dedicated option to avoid parkways. However, as a long-time user, I know a few tricks.
So, let me show you a neat workaround to stay clear of these often restricted roads:
Use Satellite View
Google Maps‘s Satellite view can give you a clear view of the landscape to let you easily recognize parkways and other roads unsuitable for trailers, trucks, buses, and more.
To take advantage of this:
- Open Google Maps and add your starting point and destination.
- Click the Layers button, then More, and scroll down to select Satellite.
- Click the + icon to zoom in on the route and confirm if it’s a parkway. If it is, you can manually adjust the route by dragging the path to alternative roads.
Easy right? While it does take a bit of effort, you can now avoid parkways on Google Maps and pick the most convenient route.
